DRS Technologies Launches New Version of Thermal Surveillance Camera for Global Commercial Applications
PARSIPPANY, NJ, MARCH 28, 2012 – DRS Technologies, Inc., a Finmeccanica Company, announced that it is offering a 9 Hz version of its WatchMaster® IP Elite thermal imaging camera to the global commercial marketplace.
Produced by the Commercial Infrared Systems line of business within DRS’ Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition (RSTA) Group, the WatchMaster® IP Elite generates sharp thermal images with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and is now offered with a frame rate of nine frames per second.
“The WatchMaster® IP Elite doesn’t compromise a single pixel of quality or performance utilizing a 9 Hz frame rate,” says RSTA President Terry Murphy, “Its detailed 320 x 240 image simply offers the highest quality available to commercial security and surveillance applications, at an unparalleled low price.”
RSTA is postured to deliver the WatchMaster® IP Elite worldwide in high volumes, extending the availability of DRS’ thermal technology in the global commercial market and RSTA’s presence internationally.
The WatchMaster® IP Elite uses uncooled vanadium oxide technology to detect long-wave infrared (heat) emissions instead of visible light, allowing it to display a clear image through haze, dust, smoke, light fog and dark of night, which are conditions that can severely limit the image quality of other low-light technologies.
It is available with a choice of three fully sealed, hard-carbon-coated, athermalized fixed-focus lenses furnishing a horizontal field of view of 40°, 16° or 9°. It can be used as a standalone system or networked via the Internet with other cameras and managed through a central office, remote video management system or its own Web interface utility and conforms to the Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF™) standard for assured interoperability.
Like the 30Hz version of the WatchMaster® IP Elite, the 9Hz camera leads the industry in power savings, consuming less than 15 watts, and supports video, camera control and power over a single, tamper-resistant cable connection. In addition, it is IEEE802.3af Power over Ethernet compliant and can be integrated into existing security infrastructures easily because of its open-platform architecture.
